It’s an exciting month to be in the west of Scotland, with the first-ever European Championships taking place in venues across the city of Glasgow. Plus, with concerts, comedy and theatre shows and fantastic festivals, there’s so much to do, you’ll be absolutely spoilt for choice.
Bringing together the existing European Championships of cycling, gymnastics, rowing, swimming and triathlon, and there will also be a new mixed-gender team golf competition at Gleneagles, the inaugural multi-sport European Championships will be hosted in venues across the city of Glasgow this month. With swimming at Tollcross, cycling at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and much more, it’s a fantastic time to be in Glasgow.
Merchant City Festival
Glasgow’s annual performing arts and street food extravaganza has returned to the city centre. This centre piece of the Glasgow summer events calendar showcases some of the best in Scottish and international arts and entertainment. Expect street art, music, dance, film, comedy, family-friendly activities and a curated selection of street food.
Madagascar the Musical
The theatre version of the family-favourite film is coming to the Kings for just a few days this August! Join Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria as they escape the zoo and bound straight on to the stage in this musical spectacular. Assured entertainment for kids and adults alike, it’s not one to miss!
One of Scotland’s best-known comics is taking the stage at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal this August. Yes, the funny man will return to play his beloved hometown after a short stint of live shows in Edinburgh. His show is entitled Prometheus Volume III – it’s the third show of a planned eight-volume sequence and promises to baffle and entertain audiences in good measure.
Glasgow Summer Sessions
The summer sessions return to the Southside’s Bellahouston Park this August, with a series of concerts featuring some of the best music acts from all over the world. This year’s headliners are the incredible Kings of Leon, Catfish and the Bottlemen and the Kendrick Lamar. With a superb range of support acts on the bill as well, it’s the perfect way to end the summer.
Beer Makes Glasgow
The craft beer revolution shows no signs of letting up, particularly in Scotland. This charitable festival celebrates Scottish brewing, and has returned for 2018, this time hosted at the fantastic east end venue of Drygate Brewery.
Strathaven Hot Air Balloon Festival
Scotland’s only hot air balloon festival returns to Strathaven Park in South Lanarkshire this month. Combining the festival with family fun days means it’s a great event for both adults and children. And did we mention it’s free?
