The sun has shown us a glimpse of summer, and not a moment too soon, as we see the events of summer get into full swing across the city. With so much happening it’s difficult to choose what to do but here’s a selection of what we think will be some top events in Glasgow and the west in the month of June.
Glasgow Science Festival
Visit one of the largest science festivals in the UK at this action packed ten-day event located around the city. There’s a varied programme of activity featuring high quality events and innovative delivery styles. For more information visit glasgowsciencefestival.org.uk.
The Rum Festival
A fairly new edition to the drinks festival circuit, the Rum Festival is back in Glasgow for its second year. The travelling festival, showcasing over 100 rums and some of the best rum cocktails from around the globe, comes to the Briggiat. For more information visit therumfestival.co.uk.
The Gin Festival
If rum’s not your thing why not head to the Great British Gin Festival at the Glasgow Barrowland’s Ballroom? 29th June – 1st July and 6th – 8th July
Glasgow has a love for music so where better to spend some music-filled days, hopefully in the sun, than the TRNSMT festival. This year the festival is back for not one, but two weekends! The Headliners include the Stereophonics, the Script, James Bay, the Killers, plus many more great acts and bands. There’s lots of information available on their site to help you plan your whole weekend including travel and accommodation. Find out more at htrnsmtfest.com.
West End Festival
31st May – 30th June
The West End Festival is Glasgow’s largest cultural event and every June takes over this popular area of Glasgow with a wide variety of over 400 events, performances and much more. The recently refurbished Kelvingrove Bandstand is bursting with great concerts, plus a new family event in the park. Regular favourites include the local history Guided Walks, the Bard in the Botanics, a full theatre and music programme at Oran Mor, Cottiers and Websters Theatres. For more information visit westendfestival.co.uk.
Matthew Bourne’s Cinderalla
Matthew Bourne’s interpretation of the classic fairytale, Cinderella, is coming to the Kings theatre in Glasgow this summer. With award winning costumes and sets, the ballet will be performed to a 60 piece orchestra. With great critic review, this modern adaptation is not to be missed.
